Description of Facility: Climate stations, part of the CEN SILA network and permafrost monitoring sites. No accommodation as of yet (room rentals in village) but planned for 2010. An Inuk manager is available year-round, part-time in winter and full-time in summer. Laboratory: One laboratory and two containers for storage operated by the CEN in partnership with the Nunavik Research Institute and the community.
Wet Lab: No Power: Regular commercial Communications: No phone line. Access: Commercial air services. Daily flights available from Whapmagoostui-Kuujjuarapik. Local Transportation: 4x4 trucks, snowmobiles, and ATVs are available for rent in the community but prior arrangements must be made. Helicopter services can be purchased from Nunavik Rotors and Whapchiwem Helicopters. Fuel Availability: Must make prior arrangements via CEN. Nearest Community: Umiujaq (0 km) Nearest Medical Service: Health Centre in Umiuaq (130 km) and hospital in Puvirnituq Licences, Permits: None but local authorities must be informed of research activities. Availability: Year round. Make prior arrangements. Cost: Rate packages are available, depending on the needs of the researchers.
Current Projects: Biodiversity and dynamics of northern aquatic ecosystems; impacts of melting permafrost in the context of global warming; wetlands paleoecology; research on mercury dynamics (air, precipitation, snow); snow and ice dynamics.
